Topaz is one of the most popular gemstones and is found in shades of yellow or orange, pink, blue (the most usual shades of blue Topaz are; 'London Blue Topaz', 'Swiss Blue Topaz' and 'Sky Blue Topaz', with London Blue being the deepest shade and Sky Blue being the palest tone), green or brown. Topaz can also be colourless.

Topaz has a hardness of 8 on the Moh's scale of hardness. The name Topaz is derived from the Greek 'Topazios' meaning 'to seek', which was the name of an island in the Red Sea which was difficult to find and from which a yellow stone was mined.

Yellow Topaz is the traditional birthstone of November, however other shades of Topaz are acceptable alternatives.

Topaz is associated with encouranging a practical approach to ones life and increasing decision making abilities. Topaz is also associated with healing wounds and stimulating creativity.

All varieties of Topaz are ideal for use in Topaz jewellery.
