Watermelon Tourmaline is a very rare gemstone which has a completely natural bi colour formation and can display an almost unlimited combination of colours in one gemstone.

True Watermelon Tourmaline has a pink Rubellite core surrounded by a shell of at least one shade of green Tourmaline. The most valuable Watermelon Tourmaline gems are those with a deep pink centre surrounded by rich green complete rings or those with highly unusual colour combinations or patterns. When cut into a briolette (which is very rarely done) the most valuable gems are those with a clear division of colour and at least two distinct colours in the gem, with higher value being placed on those with multiple colours. When cut into gems for ring settings the Watermelon Tourmaline gems are valued according to clarity and the number of colours displayed in each stone with more colours increasing the value. High grade watermelon Tourmaline is incredibly rare.
