Designer Earrings

When shopping for designer earrings online the first thing to consider is the material that the earrings are made from.

Some people can experience allergic reactions to metals containing nickel and are unable to wear earrings created from plated metals or base metals.

Precious metals on their own are too soft to use in jewellery and so nickel is added to the pure gold and silver to harden it. Sterling silver has very little nickel content and doesn't normally cause any allergic reaction. The higher the karat gold, the less nickel content it will have and the safer it will be for allergy sufferers.

If you suffer from any nickel allergies we recommend that you wear only earrings handmade using sterling silver, solid gold of 18k and higher or white gold (which is more commonly mixed with palladium rather than nickel).
