Designer Rings

Rings have been worn as adornments throughout history and have long been associated with superstition in every culture. Rings are also given to represent commitment and are commonly used to represent engagements and marriage.

The Egyptians wore rings depicting the scarab beetle and the Romans wore rings set with gemstones. In Medieval times rings were worn as a symbol of status, with the material that the ring was created in indicating the social class of the wearer. In modern times rings of a particularly high quality are still worn as a status symbol.

Rings can be made in a vast range of materials including solid gold, platinum, sterling silver, wood, plated metals and plastics with certain types of material being more suitable than others depending on the type of ring and the intended use.

Platinum and gold rings are suitable for rings intended for everyday use, such as an engagement or wedding ring, while sterling silver is ideal for use in rings which are to receive medium to heavy use over time. Other materials, including plated metals, can be used for fashion rings intended for light use however these materials will not stand the test of time.

Designer rings can also be set with gemstones or pearls for a more unique style. The vast majority of gemstones are ideally suited for use in designer rings with precious gemstones being ideal for everyday use. Designer rings handmade using semi precious gemstones are ideal for medium to heavy use. Although pearls are suited to use in rings they are ideally suited to light wear and are not recommended for everyday use.

Rings can be handmade or can be mass produced. Handmade rings will always be more valuable than mass produced rings due to the higher standard of craftsmanship involved in the rings creation. Selecting a handmade designer ring that has been hand finished is the best way to ensure that you are purchasing a high quality piece of jewellery.

Designer rings can be subtle, elegant and understated designs reflecting a more classic style or bold statement pieces for a more fashionable look, allowing the wearer to express their own personal style. Rings handmade with rare and one of a kind gemstones or pearls provide excellent investment pieces and will often increase in value each year as the supply of the gem becomes increasingly scarce.

If your designer ring needs to be resized it is recommended that you entrust this task to the jeweller who designed and made the ring as specialist product knowledge is often required when resizing rings, especially gemstone set rings.
