Opal Jewellery

All of the Opals used in our Opal jewellery are guaranteed to be solid, genuine Opals of only the finest quality. All of our Opal jewellery designs are one of a kind items and every Opal we use has been hand selected for quality, colour and uniqueness.

Contemporary Opal Jewellery

Opals, known as the 'Queen of Gems' are one of the most beautiful gemstones and have been highly prized since the beginning of civilization. For ages people have believed in the healing power of Opal. It is reported to be able to cure depression and to help its wearer find their true love.

Opals are the birthstone for people born in October under the zodiac sign of Libra. Opals are also supposed to further enhance the positive characteristics for people born under the zodiac sign of Cancer. Black Opal is recommended to those born under Scorpio, and Boulder Opal is the lucky stone for Aries.

Unlike other gemstones, every Opal is absolutely unique allowing the Opal jewellery purchaser to find a piece of jewellery that will be one of a kind and express their own personality.

Opals are often mistakenly associated with bad luck. This myth originated from the difficulties faced by gem setters and jewellers trying to make Opal jewellery as inexperienced Opal jewellers often damaged or cracked the opals during setting.

Designer Opal Jewellery

There are many types of Opal available from white Opal to black Opal to the unusual ‘picture’ boulder Opals and fiery crystal Opals. Most Opal today comes from Australia, however fine Opal can also be sourced from Mexico, Brazil and the USA. Precious opal is extremely rare and fine examples are more expensive than diamond, especially black and dark opal.

Depending on the kind, place of occurrence and colour of the main body, we differentiate Dark or Black Opal, White or Light Opal, Milk or Crystal Opal, Boulder Opal, Opal Matrix, Yowah Nuts from Queensland - the so-called 'picture stones', and also Mexican and Fire Opal. Opal variations are practically unlimited. Only precious opal exhibits flashes of rainbow like colours; 'common opal' does not possess this quality. We only use precious Opal in our Opal jewellery.

Unique Opal Jewelry

Opal colour preference varies greatly from country to country. Any solid Opal with good colour will always hold it’s value so choose the colour that appeals to you most. There is no right and wrong when it comes to choosing an Opal colour, only personal preference.

When buying Opal Jewellery take great care to ensure that you are buying a solid Opal rather than a ‘Doublet’ or a ‘Triplet’. A doublet is a thin slice of Opal glued onto a much cheaper stone backing. This stone backing is usually created from a black stone such as Onyx to bring out the colour in the Opal and to give the appearance of a much more valuable Opal. A triplet is an even thinner slice of Opal set between a dark base and a crystal top layer to give the appearance of a much more valuable stone. When an Opal is cut for use in triplets it may produce enough slices to create hundreds of Opal triplets with each slice of Opal being only a fraction of a mm thick.

When buying your Opal jewellery online you should always ask your jewellery designer whether the Opal is solid. You should also check the back of the Opal jewellery; if it is enclosed you are most likely buying a triplet or a doublet. A reputable Opal jewellery designer will always be able to provide you with a written guarantee that you are buying a solid Opal.

When purchasing your Opal jewellery you should take great care to ensure that the Opal you are buying is in fact genuine. Many Opal jewellers sell imitation and lab created Opal as genuine Opal. A reputable Opal jewellery designer will always be able to tell you the origin of the Opal.

Mexican Opal Jewellery

Mexican Opals are a variety of fire Opal which varies in colour from clear through to a rich deep red and every shade in between. Mexican Opals are transparent with strong internal colour play.

Cantera Opals are a variety of Mexican Opal which have a crystal Opal core surrounded by the matrix or host rock. Cantera Opals look great when set into pendants or rings as each one is absolutely unique.

Peruvian Opal Jewellery

Peruvian Opal is found in shades of Caribbean blue or baby pink. Both colours often have natural dendritic inclusions which are both expected and tolerated in larger sized gems.

Rare Opal Jewellery

We have access to some of the worlds finest Opal and we hand select the best of the best to create our exclusive collection of fine, rare and investment Opal jewellery. Each piece of fine Opal jewellery in our collection is handmade with a museum grade Opal gem, often with a unique natural pattern, or, sourced from a depleted or closed mine. Every piece in this fine Opal jewellery collection is a one of a kind collectors piece suitable for the investor or Opal connoisseur.
